THE CURRENT STATE OF THE UNITED STATES

Since the brutal murder of George Floyd and the subsequent protests and riots, America has been in a seemingly never ending state of civil unrest and turmoil. Day and night there seems to be people protesting all over the country. The Black Lives Matter movement has taken the forefront in the fight against police brutality and racial injustice. The hashtags #BLM and #blacklivesmatter can be seen on every social media site around the world.

However, from this grew a newer, potentially more detrimental movement. The “defund the police” movement. A movement that could have grave consequences for many communities across the country if police departments were to actually be defunded. The BLM movement has also created an unprecedented surge in firearm sales in every state in the country. With the majority of those sales going to people who were previously anti-gun.

” More than 2 million Americans became first-time gun owners in the first half of 2020, officials reported. The National Rifle Association tweeted the news, referencing data released earlier in the week by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a firearms trade group. “

With a presidential election right around the corner and the Democratic candidates being extremely anti-gun, things are going to get very very interesting in November.

Then when you throw the Jacob Blake and Kyle Rittenhouse situations into the mix. Things just get much much worse. In case you have been living under a rock or in a cave recently, let me give you a brief recap of these current events.

Jacob S. Blake is a 29-year-old black man who was shot and wounded by police on August 23, 2020. He was hit by four of seven shots fired at his back during an arrest by police officer Rusten Sheskey. The incident occurred in Kenosha, Wisconsin, as officers were attempting to arrest Blake. During the encounter, Blake was tasered and scuffled with officers. He was shot as he opened the driver’s door to his SUV and leaned in. Three of Blake’s sons were in the backseat. The police shooting was followed by Kenosha protests which included rallies, marches, property damage, arson, clashes with police, and a fatal shooting of two protesters by an out-of-state armed civilian. Blake’s name was invoked in protests in other cities as part of the Black Lives Matter movement, which had seen a resurgence in the wake of high-profile killings by police officers in 2020.

Kyle Rittenhouse is a 17-year old Antioch, Ill., resident whom prosecutors have accused of fatally shooting two men and wounding another who were protesting the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha. He first came to public attention after videos posted on social media on showed him armed with a gun and running at the site of the shooting. At one point, he can be heard in a video saying, “I just killed somebody,” according to a complaint filed by the Kenosha County District Attorney.

“Everyone has the inherent right to self defense. If you have a reasonable fear of bodily harm or death, deadly force may be necessary for self preservation.”

Kyle Rittenhouse was chased and attacked by an angry mob. The men he shot were convicted felons and career criminals. The man he shot in the arm who pulled a pistol on him was a convicted felon and should not have had a gun at all. Some are calling young Kyle a hero, others are trying to vilify him all over social media. Video doesn’t lie. Kyle was chased and was attacked by multiple people with weapons and objects being used as weapons. When he could no longer escape he shot his attackers. No one else. This will play out in court as Kyle Rittenhouse has been charged with several crimes including multiple homicide charges, court records show. The UNITED STATES of AMERICA is in a very sad place right now. We are divided on many issues and our value system is being manipulated by news and social media outlets and sites. In my opinion, things will only get worse before they get better. Stay tuned America! That’s just my two cents.
